I, the LORD, alone probe the mind and test the heart,
To reward everyone according to his ways, according to the merit of his deeds.
– Jeremiah 17:5-10

Christian life is not living in abandoned pleasure. It doesn’t require hording wealth and stashing treasures. When we die, can we take with us all our earthly possessions into our graves?
“I deserve to be rich,” you may say. Because you have obtained your status through hard work. So you have the right to enjoy to the fullest while still alive. But this is limiting your existence. You have never believed that there is another life – a life promised by God to those who remained faithful to Him. A life beyond our present earthly existence. The Son of God made the ultimate sacrifice for this kind of life in store for us.
Today’s gospel is a reminder. If we have been blessed by God with wealth, it is because He gives us the responsibility to share this blessings to our brothers who are less fortunate. A true Christian is eager to obtain and maintain commendation from GOD. And God is looking into our righteous ways and charitable deeds and we will not be left unrewarded.
Lord Jesus, teach me to be more generous with my blessings. May I learn how to always fulfill one of the greatest commandments – “love my neighbor as I love myself”. Amen.
