‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.’

The law of love is the most important of all the commandments of the Lord. Love of God and neighbor is both the source and the summit of the Law of the Old Covenant and of the New. Living these two greatest commandments purifies and cleanses our hearts—the inside of the cup.
– Father Daniel Ray
Jesus Christ wants love for one another to be the distinctive sign of all those who follow in his footsteps. This love is the sign, pledge, and proof that we are true Christians and not frauds or impostors. Christ is the first to show us how deep and pure this love is to be. This love must stem from our desire to bring all those we meet closer to heaven and, therefore, closer to true happiness. This love must stem from our love for God.
– Father Patrick Langan
Lord, help me to listen to your word with an open and a trusting heart. You placed the commandment of loving one ’s neighbor on the same level as loving God with all one’s heart. Help me to understand the newness of this beautiful doctrine.
