God is our refuge and our strength, an ever-present help in distress. Therefore we fear not, though the earth be shaken and mountain plunges into the depths of the sea.
– Psalm 46

Jesus’ words in this gospel are not only meant for the crippled man bound to his mat for 38 long years. Today, Jesus commands the spiritually crippled to also “Rise up and walk” again. There’s no point in staying in our mats and totally accept our weakness. Jesus gives hope. God is our refuge and strength. We just have to believe what he says. If today Jesus tells us to “rise up and walk”, he is telling us to get rid of our sinfulness and walk with him, follow his path and regain control of our lives. Because if we stay in our state of sinfulness, we are letting the devil control and possess us.
Who would you rather walk with, the devil or our Lord Jesus? Or would you rather stay on your mat and never rise up again?
Lord Jesus, everyday is a battle against Satan. Help me fight this daily war. Make me always realize that with God as my fortress, I will always come out victorious. I will always be walking and leaping and praising God. In your name, Jesus the Christ, I will rise up and walk!
