“In all this Job did not sin, nor did he say anything disrespectful of God.”
Job’s story is a powerful reminder for all of us that we are above our circumstances. “You” are the only person who can really define your life and your happiness — not your circumstances, not your fortune.
Your life does not have to change when your boss changes, when your friends change, when your parents change, when your partner changes, when your company changes. Your circumstances may change. They are beyond your control. But your response to these changes depends on you.
God allowed Satan to change Job’s circumstances but not to touch his soul. Job’s fortunes did change. He lost everything — his servants, his cattle, his family. He lost everything except himself.
The analogy makes so much sense. The same boiling water breaks down meat and hardens the egg. One is broken, the other is hardened. Are you undergoing rough moments right now? It is not about external circumstances but rather what one is made of.
